Kicking off SmackDown! Is Matt Hardy, he wonders to the ring acting quite angry and injured. He grabs a mic and moves on to show a tape of him getting injured by McIntyre and Ziggler, this was followed up by the attack from last week backstage.
Matt then proceeds to talk about McIntyre but this was cut short as McIntyre made his way down to the ring.
McIntyre starts talking about how Vince McMahon thinks he is the future of WWE. Matt Hardy doesn’t back down and calls Drew to the ring. They enter a slug fest just throwing punches as the crowd chant Hardy and refs try to split the two.
Once Matt’s back is turned McIntyre makes a sneak attack and just lays into Matt and the refs struggle to retain him.
Teddy comes out and calls for Drew to stop when he doesn’t listen Teddy suspends him, when he still doesn’t stop he is striped of the Intercontinental Title, he still continues so Teddy moves on to a straight up firing.
McIntyre is removed from the building and Matt is left with a medic by the ring. McIntyre says that he will go to Vince and knowing him he will and we may see Teddy be the one fired.
This was a brilliant opening segment to open with, had me and Paul cringing at some of the hits we saw.
When we come back from the ads Josh Matthews is questioning Teddy but he can’t seem to answer questions straight and seems worried, most probably playing on the fact that Vince may now fire him.
We then head to MVP making his way to the ring for a one on one fight against Festus, I mean Luke Gallows.
This was a great contest; I didn’t see either of these to falter through out the match.
MVP does well to get the Crowd behind him as he starts Balling. As he goes for the Playmaker Serena jumps up for the distraction, this works for a minute but MVP takes control for the win as simultaneously Rey jumped into view and nails punk before running back through the crowd.
When we come back from the ads CM Punk and the S.E.S are in the ring and Punk starts calling Rey a coward for attacking from behind, he then moves on to call out Rey.
Rey comes out and says that he was giving Punk a taste of his own medicine doing what the mystery man has been doing. He asks who the man is where he is going to attack from next.
Punk starts denying it and saying Rey is delusional, and that there is no mystery man. Rey reverses the argument and says how Punk is delusional and that he is here to shave Punks head. Punk says that he beat Rey at Extreme Rules and that he can not do so, but Rey comes back by stating he beat Punk at Wrestlemania, so it’s one to one. Rey and Punk agree to one more match, CM Punk loses he shaves head if Rey loses he joins the S.E.S.
Rey then continues to say why wait till Over the Limit, but Punk refuses. Rey moves on to agree with Punk on what the S.E.S stands for but we do not like the messenger and that he should lead by example and shave his head but Punk is apparently to good for that because he is better than everyone.
Rey starts trying to turn Luke and Serena against him, as he does we see the wheels turning in there heads but no switching sides yet. Rey ends this great promo by saying that there is no escape from the 619.
After the ads we have a snore segment as we head into a Divas Tag Match between LayCool and Kelly Kelly and partner Tiffany.
I could see how this was going to go but I wanted to see some improvement from these Divas.
Michelle seems to show her usual dominance in this match against Tiffany until Matt Stryker’s English love muffing Layla is tagged in and Kelly Joins from the other side, this lead into a bit of mess until LayCool take the win. There is potential from all these divas but WWE just don’t want to push them to there full extent.
After this we see Teddy tell us how we will decide a new Intercontinental Champion. He announces that we will be having a Tournament between, Dolph, Kofi, Cody and Christian. Kofi vs. Dolph and Cody vs. Christian set to happen later in the night. The winners of these matches will go head to head next week to crown a new champion.
After a little ad break we have the first part of this Tournament between Dolph and Kofi.
This was another great contest between these two; I do love how WWE superstars are showing how they can put on a good match regardless of the restrictions WWE has put in place.
We saw some great moves in this contest from both superstars and these two knew how to make them look good.
It ended with a close 2 count that lead into the sleeper from Dolph, when we thought it was all over for Kofi he gets free and is able to nail the Trouble in Paradise and get the 3.
I love how the WWE have started using the close 2 counts more frequently after big moves; it puts us on the edge of our seats as we actually don’t know when a match will end making it more unpredictable.
When we return from the adverts we head into the second match in the Intercontinental Championship Tournament, Christian vs. Cody Rhodes. Christian’s NXT rookie Heath Slater is at ringside for this contest as well.
I really enjoyed this match, both of these superstars are growing on me and I can see them moving into some good storylines.
Cody is showing great potential for the future as is Christian as well, regardless of who wins I still see them both moving up in the ranks.
This match is quite explosive in WWE standards; we see a top rope Superplex, reversals and close 2 counts.
We see this end on Christian pulling off the Killswitch to take the win; this was the best match of the night a great contest. I am really looking forward to next weeks final match Christian vs. Kofi Kingston, but I do see Vince rehiring Drew and adding him to the match.
We now have some looks back at Big Show from last week, and the incidence between McIntyre and Hardy earlier in the night.
After that we have Jack Swagger come down to the ring, with mic in hand the crowd begin to boo but quite down when he starts talking. This crowd isn’t as riled up as the last time; this crowd just had the odd boo’s but didn’t really get behind it which was a shame. While Jack babbled on we went to a short break when we came back he was still going. At this point the crowd started to chant you suck but instead of keeping it up they went quite again when he spoke.
Jack was finally made quite by the explosion of Kane’s pyro as he heads to the ring.
Not long into this match we have the Big Shows music and he heads down to the ring sporting a new suit and looking quite snazzy. He joins Matt and Todd at the Announcers table.
Big Show stays neutral on the table being nice to Matt and Todd as well as complementing both Kane and Jack’s in ring ability’s.
The match comes to an end as Jack Swagger used an exposed turn buckle for longer than a 5 count. The crowd chant Big Show as Swagger steps towards Show, he thinks twice though and turns round but meets Kane’s boot. Kane clears the table but ends being thrown into the stairs. When he turns from Kane he is caught by Big Show and sent through the announcers table. Big Show takes the World Title and gets in the ring and posses with it making a statement. This ends off a very good show.
My final thoughts of this night are very good, WWE are evolving well even with this PG rating but it should still be removed but hey, they are doing ok.
I love the close calls they are putting into matches making things a lot less predictable and more gripping.
I am looking forward to next weeks show and I am starting to enjoy SmackDown! More and more each week.
I will do another Blog soon with a more in depth look at the events from the night.
This is Matty.D signing off.
