RAW 26/4/10
A Run down and review of last nights Raw
Raw started off to a good start with ShowMiz going up against the Heart Dynasty, kicked off with Miz’s great mic work followed by Bret Heart with a rebuttal. This followed into a great contest between the teams that had the crowd going nuts. I must say I haven’t seen a WWE crowd that pumped in a long time. It came to some close calls and a little help from Bret before Tyson Kid locked in the sharp shooter, leading to a tap out from the Miz.
During the ads Big Show turned on Miz with a nice big fist to the head that actually looked pretty damn painful.
Great start to Raw and one of the better Tag matches that I have seen in quite a while.
This lead into the typical rubbish from the commentators this time talking about Triple H. And hey Matt Stryker, we have seen Trips decimated a lot worst than that and still come back from it, so stop talking out of your backside and get off that microphone geeze! This guy is awful.
Up next was the usual toilet break section as we had a Raw vs SmackDown! Divas tag match for a draft pick.
Eve & Maryse vs LayCool
Interesting chant during this match as the crowd (from what I can tell) chanted “we want Mickie” and personally I agree, they also need to bring back Katie Lee but what are the chances of WWE listening to what the fans actually want.
Once again this match is its typical snore fest. These Divas have so much to offer (at least two of them anyway, Michelle and Eve) and the WWE do not allow them the chance to use there full potential
Maryse ends up pinned by Michelle meaning SmackDown! Got the first so called “random” draft pick of Divas resulting in Kelly Kelly making her way to the Blue ring of SmackDown!
Next up is another draft pick match, Evan Bourn vs. CM punk.
This seemed to be a bit of a mess as some of Evans moves missed or just didn’t look well performed so this was quite rough around the edges.
This ended as you may have predicted interference from the new mystery man (who we are all guessing is Joey Mercury) messing up the Shooting star press. CM Punk took advantage and took the win and SmackDownds! Second draft pick being the 7ft baldy known as the Big Show, this is obviously the end of ShowMiz as a tag team with no continuing story line.
More drivel from the commentator’s next leading into Show back stage with Teddy Long. From the looks of things Show maybe taking a face turn as he is becoming an upbeat character.
Next the Celtic “needs a tan” Warrior made his way to the ring to tell us that he has ended Triple H’s carrier.
As he moves on to talk about wanting the WWE championship back Rev Theory blasts through the arena and Randy makes his way to the ring.
Orton and Shames argue and as Shames go’s to leave we see the over rated Cena make his appearance.
Cena makes a good skit about the fact that there is no guest host, and this was actually being quite a chuckle.
This great promo ends with Cena saying that he gets to choose who challenges him and that it has to be earned and creates a #1 contender match for later in the night.
Orton almost gets kicked then Shames is close to an RKO but ducks out the ring before he could meet the mat.
10 men enter the ring for a SDvRAW battle royal for 3 draft picks, this was a solid match ending with Ted and Rey fighting around the ropes with a lot of skinning the cat and hanging on by the skin of there teeth but resulting in Rey’s elimination.
3 draft picks earned from this for Raw. 1st John Morrison 2nd R-Truth so they may be deciding to continue there tag team but time can only tell. 3rdly is the rated R superstar Edge.
Y2J comes out and complains about Edge and follows on to call out Heath Slater of NXT to apologize for him beating the so called best at what he does. Heath apologizes for Edge beating him and then introduces Christian as Y2J’s opponent for another pick.
I found this match average at best but I do not think the crowd agreed with me as they definitely came at full force, the crowd for the hole night were loud, chanting and really getting into the show which is a big improvement to the usual sit down and watch hush that comes across the arenas in past events, the crowd had a voice for once and they need to start using it.
This ended with Chris putting on the walls but Christian was able to reach the ropes but he soon met a Code Breaker and Jericho earns SmackDown! Yet another pick. Before we see who it is Chris beats on Heath.
The draft pick is Kofi and he runs to the ring and nails Jericho with a Trouble in Paradise in attempt to make some sort of statement.
Now that John Morrison had been drafted to Raw he now represented them and went up against Swagger for another pick.
Straight away I was wondering if we were going to see Swagger lose yet again, either way I saw this being a good little bout but I was quite wrong.
The match started slow and couldn’t find the acceleration. It seemed to kill the spirit of the crowd as they sat in silence, it was if the crowd had all there drinks spiked with a sleeping pill.
This concluded with Swagger earning another Pick for SmackDown! And that is being Christian.
Next weeks guest host is announced as Wayne Brady, I know him as the singing funny man of the US version of “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”
R-Truth and Ted have a priceless moment back stage after that, once again a good little promo.
We end up with a gimmick match between Dolph and the Mini DX mascot Hornswoggle and ends with Dolph getting counted out but with Dolph non to happy he puts Horns to sleep. Draft pick being Chris Jericho.
After the ads we have a surprise visit from the child hater Batista shouting and complaining about how he should be #1 contender and being pretty damn angry.
Shames makes his way down followed by Orton, already you can see where this is heading.
Cena shows up and creates what you would of expected a Triple Threat.
Orton was a Viper, Batista was an Animal and Shames was a Warrior making this a pretty good match which had the crowd more active again.
This ended with a shocking attack from Edge on Orton allowing Batista to pick up the win.
This was a better than usual show for Raw, and I did enjoy it all the way through but WWE still need to step up to match up with TNA.
The draft is once again all pre determined but this has opened up to new story lines, I guess we will wait and see what’s coming next.
