A Messy Night Of Champs

Last night’s PPV was a pretty average show; the last match of the night though was just a mess and couldn’t seem to pull its self together.

The night kicked off with a pretty good Tag match with controversy and conspiracy.
The match started well and Kofi and Evan were wearing matching colours. During the match the Ref made a couple mistakes that he won’t soon forget.
During the match Evan clapped his hand to cover up that he didn’t tag and jumped in the ring. The Ref “heard” the clap and assumed it was a tag and allowed Evan into the match, Miz and Truth though were in an up roar over the sly move by AirBoom. Later in the match the Ref’s back was turned when Miz tagged Truth in, when the Ref turned around he straight away halted Truth and sent him back on the apron as he didn’t “see” a tag, while the Ref was busy with Truth Miz nailed The Skull Crushing Finale on Evan and made the cover, it should have been the end and AwesomeTruth should be the winners but as the Ref was still preoccupied with Truth he missed the Pin completely, by the time he turned around he only counted to 1 when Evan kicked out.
That was the last straw for Miz and Truth as Miz shouted at the Ref and eventually hit him. Truth then helped the Ref back up just to slap him back to the Mat, the two were obviously disqualified.
A little later backstage the two voiced their anger in a short interview promo.

Next we had a pretty average contest between Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase. Cody won after having his masked removed by Ted. Ted attempted to hit Cody but ended up being rolled into a pin losing the match.
Cody Retains the Intercontinental Championship.

We had a short promo from Christian once again demanding another match for the world title; shockingly the crowd seemed to agree. The Great White Sheamus then came to the ring and supported Christian as long as Sheamus got the first shot at the belt after Christian had won it. Sheamus then chanted one more match along with the crowd before nailing Christian with a bro kick.

Next was, in my opinion the best match of the night, a Fatal 4 Way for the US Championship. All 4 men came to impress and they didn’t disappoint, great moves and close calls throughout. There were moments that it looked like all the competing superstars were going to win but each time there was a kick out or it was foiled by another competitor.
In the end Jack Swagger nailed a Jack Knife power bomb on John Morrison, as he was going for the cover Dolph shoved Jack out the way and took the pin to retain his US Title.

Next was Mark Henry vs. Randy Orton in another average match, there was nothing to really get excited about. Couple close calls but in the end Randy was foiled with a keyfab leg injury allowing Mark to take the win and the World Title. Josh Matthews then came down and “interviewed” Mark. Mark just took the mic and said how he is not losing the title, how he will take on all comers and not run from no body.
I think this is all hinting towards the Undertaker being the one to come and knock Mark off his pedestal and roll the story towards Mania, all though id prefer to see someone else take on Taker at Mania. Mark has improved but not enough to make an amazing Mania match for Taker.

Up next was the Divas match, one that actually had the crowd cheering loudly, the reason being is Night Of Champs was in Buffalo, Beth Phoenix’s home town. The arena was on her side and it’s been a long time since crowd got this loud over a Divas match.
This actually was a good match, one of the better matches from the Divas that we have seen in quite a while. The crowd went with some “Kelly Sucks” chants but even so Kelly actually didn’t do too bad in this match, she showed some great development. It was great match for both these women.
During the match we had something that we rarely see from Women in the WWE, Beth Phoenix took Kelly to the top rope and a Superplexed her to the Mat, a great moment for the Divas in the WWE, it shows the slight changes as the Divas Division improves. After the Superpelx Kelly kicked out the pin, Beth then went for the Glamslam but it was reversed into a quick roll up and Kelly won the match, a huge upset for the fans in Buffalo as well as Beth herself and me.

A surprisingly good WWE Championship match was next, before the match even started though Del Rio came to the ring absent a car; he got to the ring and started shouting at Ricardo about where his keys were. John Cena’s music the played and he appeared driving Del Rio’s Yellow Ferrari.
We then had Ricardo introduce Del Rio, followed by Cena humorously introducing himself.
The match was actually better than expected; it really showed why Cena is always the one going for the Title and why Del Rio currently has the title. After a great back and forth contest Cena finally pulled off the win causing Del Rio to tap to the STF. Cena wins the WWE Title for the 10th time.

Next was the highly anticipated no DQ match between CM Punk and Triple H. Unfortunately this match didn’t live up to expectations, it was a mess and I don’t know if anyone knows what the point of it all was.
The match kicked off with Punk hitting Triple H off the apron during his entrance just after the water spit.
The two men then fought around the ring in typical Triple H style. The match continued on inside the ring and outside, up through the crowd and by titontron. All this should have really got the crowd going but the cheers seemed to die down and the crowd didn’t seem to be feeling the vibe.
The match kept going strong for the first half of it, the use of a Steel chair came in and the announcers table became a target. Punk pulled off an amazing move, jumping from the turnbuckle onto Triple H who was lying across the Spanish announcers table. The two slowly crawled themselves back into the ring while the replay of the Holy Shit moment was shown, once in the ring things started to become messy.
The Miz and R-Truth come to the ring and didn’t beat up just one of the two men but both of them. They then dragged Punk over Triple H and demanded the Ref count the Pin, Triple H kicked out at the count of 2 to the disbelief of Truth and Miz.
Miz started Shouting at the Ref, Miz pointing at himself saying “Do you know who I am?” and the Ref just came back with the same response pointing at his shirt emphasizing that he is a WWE Official. The two really got in each other’s faces, the sort of thing you don’t usually see from a referee. Miz then shoved the Ref not once but twice, before finally throwing a punch which was shockingly reversed by the Ref and Miz received a punch instead. Not the smartest move by Referee Scot Armstrong as he then got a beat down by both Miz and Truth.
John Laurinaitis then made his way to ring side calling for someone from out the back to follow. In the ring Punk and Triple H had finally got themselves back on their feet and they beat on Truth and Miz clearing them out the ring.
Punk then received a Pedigree from Triple H and it looked to be all over, that is if we had a Ref about. A Ref did then run down the ramp towards the ring where Triple H was now covering Punk but John Laurinaitis stopped him and told him to attend to Scot Armstrong the fallen referee instead. Triple H confused about not getting a Ref to count the pin started calling to John to get the Ref in the ring, when Triple H turned back he ended up in a GTS, it was when Punk went for the Pin that John then sent the ref in the ring, by now I think we was all like “what the hell is going on?”
Ref counted 1 then 2 then R-Truth who was still down at ringside pulled Punk off of Triple H and out the ring. Truth also received a GTS for his troubles.
Punk crawls back towards the ring, John Laurinaitis continues to attend to Scot Armstrong, and Triple H slowly rises. Punk jumps off the ropes and lands into a kick and yet another Pedigree, Triple H goes for the cover but shockingly Punk was able to kick out.
John Laurinaitis seeing this turns away from the ring on his phone, next thing you know the apparently fired Kevin Nash made his way through the crowd and into the ring where he takes down both Punk and Triple H, he then beats on Triple H and goes for his signature Powerbomb. Punk then jumps back into the fray stopping it and beats on Nash. Nash gets the upper hand and Powerbombs Punk.
(Struggling to keep up? Because it wasn’t easy for me either.) Leaving Punk in the ring Nash goes back after Triple H. Nash clears the still standing announcers table being careful not to break any equipment, when he turns back he gets a face full of Sledge Hammer which Triple H had grabbed from under the ring while out of shot.
The crowd now did sound to be going wild even though I don’t think anyone knew what the hell was going on.  Chants collided as Triple H was cheered for as well as CM Punk. Once back in the ring Triple H nailed Punk with a 3rd and final Pedigree and winning the match.

Now to piece it together, Truth and Miz obviously don’t want Triple H to be COO, that would be why they got Punk to cover Triple H in there attack, the question then is why did Truth then pull Punk off of Triple H later in the match?
John Laurinaitis didn’t want someone to win this match, most probably Triple H but it wasn’t 100% clear to us. John is also likely to be in cahoots with Nash as it was obvious the person that John was meant to be texting on his Phone was Nash. Nash has beef with both Punk and Triple H but wanted a certain outcome as well, first impressions is he wants Triple H to lose as Triple H seemed to be Nash’s main target when he enters the ring.
Will questions be answered on tonight’s Raw? And what will happen between now and Hell in a Cell which is only 2 weeks away?

Let’s hope tonight’s Raw will have some answers and expect to see the first matches for Hell in a Cell announced tonight.
It will be yet another Super Show which seems to be the way Raw has been for the last few weeks for no real reason.
Also on tonight’s Raw we will have a guest star. Hugh Jackman, better known as Logan or Wolverine from the X-Men movie series, will be on the show, he will most probably be promoting his new movie Real Steel.

Questions for you.

Did you make any sense of the final match?

What match stood out for you?

Any predictions on where any of the storylines are heading?

That’s all for now Matty.D signing off.
