CM Punk is the talk of the wrestling world with his harsh and brash words last night.
To close out Raw’s special Roulette show was a short Table Match between R-Truth and John Cena. Cena lost the match due to an interruption by the soon to be leaving CM Punk.
Once helping Truth win Punk goes to the top of the ramp and sits in his signature cross legged style (while oddly wearing a Stone Cold Shirt) and started his speech that we will all be talking about for weeks, months or even years to come!
It started with Punk talking to Cena,
“I don't hate you, John. I don't even dislike you. I do like you. I like you a hell of a lot more than I like most people in the back. The only thing you're better at than I am is kissing Vince McMahon's ass.” He then dropped names of other apparent “Ass Kissers”, Hulk Hogan and The Rock, simply reffering to him though as “Dwayne”.
“I'm the best wrestler in the world.” He said, emphasising the word Wrestler as McMahon wants everyone to be referred to as “Superstars”.
As he went on his words became harsher and more impactful, dropping more unlikely names and saying things no other Superstar, sorry, Wrestler, could get away with.
"I've been the best ever since day one when I walked into this company and I've been vilified and hated since that day because Paul Heyman saw something in me that nobody else wanted to admit.
"That's right — I'm a Paul Heyman guy. You know who else was a Paul Heyman guy? Brock Lesnar, and he split, just like I'm splitting.
"The fact that Dwayne is in the main event at Wrestlemania next year and I'm not makes me sick. I'm leaving with the WWE championship on July 17 and who knows, maybe I'll go and defend it in New Japan Pro Wrestling. Maybe I'll go back to Ring of Honor."
He then looks towards the camera and waves to a friend in R.O.H,
"Hey Colt Cabana, how you doing?" before continueing.
"The reason I'm leaving is you people. Because after I'm gone you're still going to pour money into this company. I'm just a spoke on the wheel. The wheel's going to keep turning, and I understand that.”
"But Vince McMahon's going to make money despite himself. He's a millionaire who should be a billionaire."
"You know why Vince is not a billionaire? It's because he surrounds himself with glad-handed, nonsensical douchebag yes-men like John Laurinaitis who's going to tell him everything he wants to hear.
"And I'd like to think that maybe this company will be better after Vince McMahon is dead, but the fact is it's going to get taken over by his idiotic daughter and his doofus son-in-law and the rest of his stupid family." Referring to Vince’s Daughter, Stephanie and her husband Triple H.
Punk then went on to say, "Let me tell you a personal story about Vince McMahon. You see where we do this whole bully campaign...” It was then that Punks mic was cut off. Not long after on WWE.com it was announced that Punk was suspended.
WWE.com Quote from Vince McMahon: “CM Punk was suspended indefinitely for his unprofessional conduct as soon as Raw went off the air.”
Now to all those younger fans or the ones that just get wrapped up in all the lights and glamour we see on screen. You most probably don’t fully understand what Punk was on about, how series the things he said were, and even weather or not this was actually scripted. He was targeting the more Hardcore fan base that know more on the background work, and the subjects he was on about. The big question is, was this scripted, or was this reality?
To quote The Sun Wrestling:
The safest assumption in wrestling is always to assume everything that happens on TV is part of the script — and this certainly seems that way.
But whatever the reality, the fact is that we were treated to an epic moment in wrestling history last night.
And the aftermath may be spectacular...
As a fan that looks at the show as performance, judging things on the showmanship, the style, the ability I totally get what it is Punk was on about.
Punk is right; I will keep watching WWE even after he is gone, but I hope his words has lit a fire that could scream change.
WWE need think about their rigorous schedule, the attitude they have towards the performers, and just how things work in general. Like in most work places, happy staff means a happy work environment and therefore happy customers.
If this was scripted it is signs that WWE have already acknowledged the problems with their company and may be setting wheels in motion to change that, if it was reality then it’s something that needed to be said to light a fire under the bums of those who run the company.
Whether or not we will see Punk again is unknown, his contract is coming to an end hence why he would be leaving after Money in the Bank. But after his outburst and suspension he may not be on our screens again.
How things will come together is going to be interesting, also because apparently next week’s Raw was filmed directly after last night’s show. So anything that would be announced on the show maybe held off for 2 weeks instead of 1.
This was one of the most controversial things to ever happen on WWE TV. History was made last night, and what is to come next?
