Under the Limit

Last nights WWE PPV Over The Limit didn’t quite meet expectations as most of the event felt like a standard Raw or SmackDown! Or even Superstars show.

I spent the event in a blog chat with Rob McNichol from The Sun and other WWE fans chatting about the PPV as it happened.

None of us was overly impressed with the show until the final three matches, but the last match killed our buzz.

They kicked off the show with R-Truth vs. Rey Mysterio. The match didn’t exactly make us jump out of our seats in excitement; the two had a substantial match surrounded by mediocre promos from Truth. Truth took the win.

Big Zeke then went up against Wade Barrett for the IC Title. The build up to this match wasn’t done to well and the crowd wasn’t impressed either. It was a typical one on one match until it looked like Zeke was going to get the win, the rest of the Corre turned up and Zeke got a beating. Wade lost by DQ but gets to keep his belt. This story needs a re think before it moves on.

Sin Cara then faced Chavo in a slightly sloppy looking luchador styled match. Sin Cara was not at his best and neither was Chavo. The match just didn’t grab us and Chavo and Cara wasn’t pulling off the moves that well so a lot of points were messy. Sin Cara took the win.

Backstage we saw CM Punk and Mason Ryan talking as they enter there locker room to find Otunga and Mcgillicutty beaten on the floor by apparently Kane and Big Show; this segment contained some real bad acting from the former Gladiator Mason Ryan.

Del Rio came to the ring and cut a promo about his destiny before being interrupted by Kane and Big Show and told to leave as Kane was unhappy the rapture didn’t come the day before was willing to beat on him like they did to Otunga and Mcgillicutty. Punk and Ryan came to the ring and we headed into another substantial match that didn’t quite match to a PPV level.
Kane and Show retained.

Toilet break time as Brie Belle and Kelly Kelly went against each other for the Divas title. Thanks to some Twin magic Brie retained. The Twins maybe the next attempt of a LayCool styled team.

We then finally had a match that we were all looking forward to in the blog chat. Randy Orton vs. Christian, and it met expectations! It was a brilliant contest that contained everything we could ask for and more as Randy locked in a new submission, a reverse Boston Crab, and Christian pulled a Spear out of his bag of moves. Near the end we started thinking that it would be interrupted by someone but luckily it never was. The match came to an end with an emphatic RKO. Randy offered his hand in respect after his win but Christian refused, Christian went to leave but paused as and came back and shook Randy’s hand and they shared a friendly ending from the best match of the night. Could Christian be taking a heel turn soon? He is showing signs.

We then thought we was in for a rubbish mess of Cole vs. Lawler but we was pleasantly surprised.
At first Cole came forward in his suit with, to be blunt, a sick note from his doctor saying he can’t compete. The Ref looked it over but decided to rip it up and ring the bell. Cole didn’t stand a chance as he was beaten on by Lawler. Cole almost got the upper hand outside the ring but was then thrown through his own Cole Mine.
Once Lawler got the 1-2-3 he started to prepare himself for the kiss my foot stage. He stopped and called for someone to come to the ring. Eve came out as she has apparently received a lot of verbal abuse from Cole. She did a nice looking moonsault from the top turnbuckle onto Cole. Jerry then went back to undoing his belt when he decided to call another person out. JR made his way to the ring then poured a bottle JR’s BBQ sauce over Cole.
Jerry was about to get the foot kissing he has earned but Cole ran from the ring. While at the top of the ramp a third and unexpected person came to the rescue to drag Cole back to the ring. None other than Bret “The Hitman” Hart!
Once in the ring Bret locked a Sharp Shooter on Cole and Jerry forced his foot into Coles mouth!
A good way to finally (and hopefully) end this storyline.

Now we had the final match of the night, the I Quit Match. We say match but it was more of a beating.
Before the match started Miz pointed out that with no DQ his associate Alex Riley could get involved. So this one on one contest was quickly turned into a handicap match.
Cena started with the upper hand but Miz and Riley soon turned the tables. From this point on the match just became a beating on Cena who just would not quit. A guy in the blog chat described the match as “The Passion of the Cena” and to be honest I totally agreed, there was nothing to get hooked on it was just beating after beating with Cena saying no after each one.
During the match Cena was pulled through the barrier by the ring bell area and was smacked on the head with a steel chair after another refusal to quit. This is out of the current WWE norm as chair shots to the head were ruled out.
After the shot to the head Riley held the mic to Cena and we heard “I Quit” from Cena. The match was finished but was obviously fixed. The ref used his detective skills to figure out that Riley played a recording of Cena saying “I Quit” using his phone and so the Ref restarted the match. Cena then took down Riley and Miz, locked in the STF and got the I Quit from Miz to retain his belt. The ending was boring and the win came too easily for Cena after the beating he received, would have been better if it was more back and forth. Unfortunately an I Quit Match with Cena seems to all be the same MO and have the same result as Cena never Quits.

So overall the PPV didn’t meet expectations and was more of an episode of Raw or SmackDown!

Out of 5 stars I give it an average 3.

The next PPV was advertised at Over The Limit to be Capitol Punishment it takes the place of Fatal 4 Way. What will WWE have to offer with this one?

Questions for you.

What did you think of Over The Limit if you saw it?

What do you think is next in the storylines?

Well that’s all for now this is Matty.D signing off.

Over The Limit This Sunday and R.I.P Randy Savage

Randy and Christian’s Plot thickens

Last nights SmackDown! Saw the plot thicken between Randy and Christian. Although they still seem to be good friends the two are slowly turning there backs on each other, but not all the way, at least not yet.

At the start of the show Christian took on Sheamus, by the end of the match Mark Henry came out and the two beat on Christian. Randy did come the rescue but he was in no rush, he waited up at the titantron letting Christian get beat before finally coming to his aid.

Later Randy took on Mark Henry and by the end Sheamus came down and the two beat on Randy. Notice the Dej a vu? Christian came out but just like Randy, he took his time. He did finally come to the rescue and they got the upper hand. Sheamus was thrown out the ring by Christian while Randy was hoisted into the air by Mark. Christian kicked Mark in the gut so Randy falls to his feet, does a sort of jig then does absolutely brilliant RKO, and he celebrates with a jumping split, (not his usual character style for Randy, but it worked). The two shook hands to show there respect to each other and it looks like this Sunday we are in for a hell of a match!

Something I have noticed is this may have been the storyline originally wrote out for Edge and Christian, but due to Edges recent retirement the characters taking part have changed.

I am unsure on who will be winning the belt at Over The Limit, if this storyline was meant to be for Edge and Christian it would seem that Over The Limit was the original big day for Christians title win, not Extreme Rules. If they keep on that path we should see Christian come out with the Belt, but to maybe drag the story out and keep this great rivalry going we could see it end in a DQ, or Double Count out, or even cut short by interference. Either way I just hope for a good match.

Over The Limit!

Randy Savage R.I.P

On a sombre note now this week saw WWE Legend Randy Savage die in a car accident.

While driving with his wife Randy suffered a heat attack at the wheel of the car causing them to go out of control and crash into a tree. He was taken to a near by medical facility where he died of his injuries.

This is a sad time in the Wrestling world and my deepest condolences go out to his wife and family.
Randy and his wife Lynn only married last year, to know that someone has been ripped away from your life after only being married that one year must be hard, I hope she has the support she needs from her family and friends.

To read more on the untimely passing click on the link at the bottom of the page.

Questions for you.

Where do you think the Christian, Randy story is heading and what do you want to see from them in the coming weeks?

What are you looking forward to from Over The Limit?

Are there any thoughts you would like to share in regards to WWE Legend Randy Savage?

Well that’s all for now, I will blog on Monday after the PPV!

Cole Goes To Far.

Last night on Raw saw Michael Cole took a big step over a metaphorical line that shouldn’t have been crossed.

During last nights show, Cole announced that he was going to retire from in ring competition, (as if any of us really care). Lawler soon cut in to challenge Cole to yet another match, putting his own Hall of Fame ring on the line and offering to induct Cole into the Hall of Fame personally if Cole won. Cole turned down the offer and went back to his “Cole Mine”. Now in the safety of his box he decides to take that step he shouldn’t have taken. He spoke about the recently passed mothers’ day and what he did with his own mother before asking Lawler what he did with his, to then point out that Lawler’s mother died back in February. The moment that this was mentioned Twitter went nuts with disapproval, I spoke out about how it was a Dark turn, and Rob McNichol from The Sun soon after tweeted, “I think this might be too far. Is anyone comfortable with this?”
Rob also noticed that they then placed an anti bulling ad almost straight after, contradiction much?

After that moment Lawler went for Cole but was stopped by Swagger. Lawler went back stage as Swagger had a match for the US Championship.
During the match Lawler came back to the ring and cost Swagger the match before attacking him and throwing him over the ringside barricades. He then went after Cole and grabbed him by the tie via one of the holes on the clear box. He then proceeded to smack Cole’s face into the wall over and over again in humorous fashion, and to the approval of the crowd.

Once the Refs held Lawler back Swagger came and helped Cole out of the box and then accepted Lawler’s challenge on behalf of Cole.

Part of me can see why this line was crossed, it is a great way of getting the hate fuming and the support of Lawler sent sky high. But in a PG show, that is currently advertising its support for anti bulling, this is a big step to far, and WWE may have to review there choices better.

Christian and Orton

Those peeps that are unhappy about Christian’s recent loss of the World Title apparently shouldn’t worry too much. The recent promo’s and pushes on the loss show that WWE may be pushing this storyline along further, we may be in store for a Christian title hunt and we hopefully will see Christian with the belt back around his waist.

Questions for you.

Do you feel that Cole stepped over the line and went too far?

If you’re a Peep is your mind a little at ease knowing that he may be pushed back towards the World Title, or are you still unhappy with his loss?

That’s all for now so this is Matty.D signing off.

Viper Snakes World Title!

Last night Christian walked into SmackDown! World Heavyweight Champion, but unfortunately he walked a broken man.

The show kicked off as you would have expected. Christian came out to cut a promo about his recent win to the packed out crowd full of Peeps, to be interrupted by potential #1 Contenders. First in that line was Mark Henry, he was sporting a new black Ring Attire to go with his new Heel attitude. To be honest I think I prefer Henry as a Heel than a Face, gives him more to work with.
Soon after Henry had made his claim, The Great Khali made his way to the ring to make his claim to the belt. Next came the Viper, Randy Orton, he made his claim and the crowd was going nuts for what could be a great match. Teddy Long then came out to make the decision. By this point you may have noticed that we are following your typical opening promo for new Champion with no #1 Contender. Teddy decided to turn to the crowd for the choice and of cores the crowd cheered most for Randy. So there it is Christian vs. Randy Orton for the World Title at Over The Limit…. Actually no, Teddy announces that the match will be taking place that night. Now that is out of the ordinary for WWE, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

Jump forward to the last half hour of the show and the Title match is underway, and it was one hell of a match. Christian and Randy put on a great back and forth contest filing that last half hour with a great on edge performance. Now usually when a World Title is defended on Raw or SmackDown! The champion will always somehow keep his belt unless there is a big reason for the title change, for example the champion is planning on leaving or is suffering from an injury. So when Randy caught Christian in an RKO, rolled him up for the 3 count and won the World Title the WWE Universe was in shock. Christian was left in the ring on his knees; he then slowly left to the applause of the crowd.

Everyone will have mixed opinions on this, Christians Peeps will of cores be pretty P.O’d but what better way to get you interested and your attention? I see this as a great twist; no one would have thought that Christian would lose the Belt on his first defence, epically on SmackDown! And it’s a brilliant set up for future storylines, not to mention being unpredictable and differing from normal routine. I foresee Christian vs. Rand Orton at Over The Limit, but I am not sure if Christian will be getting his belt back that soon, if at all. On the other side of my opinion, I do not like the fact that Christians first Title reign in his 13 year Career, which has wanted for 17 years, came to close after holding the Title for about 2 days. (In TV land its 5 days, but SmackDown! Is recorded on Tuesday nights.) He is a much loved Superstar, with a huge fan base and is a brilliant in ring performer, so why take the Title away from him so soon? There may be some under lying reasons that we are waiting to come to the surface but for now it just seemed unneeded.
This sort of thing will always be a good way of gabbing peoples attention, a good way of mixing it up and not being so predictable and linier.

So was this change a bad thing? For Christian fans, yes, they didn’t want to see this happen so soon. But on the other side of things it has got me interested and will have fans watching intently to see what’s to happen next.

Now let’s have a quick look at the rest of the show because it wasn’t a bad one. We were treated to a great match between Sheamus and Daniel Bryan.

Sin Cara took on Tyson Kidd with Chavo at ringside, after the match Chavo came in the ring and shook hands with Cara prepping them for a few matches in the future and gives Chavo a push.
Something that does bug me about Sin Cara though is that everyone praises him for his moves and ability, and yes this is praise he rightly deserves, but a lot of those high flying luchador moves involve help from the opponent, if they didn’t put in there part a lot of the moves would just be a mess. So well done to Sin Cara but also well done to Kidd for being able to make them moves look as good as they did.

The Corre had Ezekiel Jackson take on the Big Show, Zeke was able to show his strengths being able to slam Show to the mat twice. After a little interference from the rest of The Corre, Zeke was able to pick up the win. Once all was said and done though Zeke turned his back on his team members and left.
Later back stage The Corre came to chat with Zeke. Zeke then turned on the Corre hitting Wade. Zeke put up a fight but the Corre was able to get the better of him. Gabriel, Heath and Wade were not pulling punches either, they wailed on Zeke as if they really wanted to hurt him. There was folding chair to one side which ended up being thrown at Zeke and looked to hit him in the head, and this wasn’t one of the slim Steel Chairs they use usually, this was a proper chair, it was heavier than normal and has a padded seat, not something you would want to have thrown at you. A suit case was then dumped on Zeke before they pulled some big thing over had it fall on Zeke, this was combined with some bad sound effects of a crashing as it fell, when it was obviously just made out of plastic and was prop epically placed there. A good and bad promo, good because WWE are being a bit rougher in there back stage fights and Hardcore natured bouts, but bad because the sound effect and the prop use was terrible.

We also had Layla beat Alicia Fox in a very quick match, it was only put together for the use of Kharma. She came to the ring after the match and Layla left as quickly as she could. Alicia decides to attack Kharma but it didn’t work out well as she got slammed to the mat in the same fashion as McCool at Extreme Rules, and Maryse on Raw.

Overall I thought this was a good show and it got my attention so I am looking forward to what’s to come.

Questions for you.

What are your thoughts on Christian’s loss of the World Title so soon?

What do you think is next for the Corre?

What use is there for Kharma other than beating on all the Divas? She seems to be pretty unstoppable so what are they going to do to try and bring her to a halt?

Well that’s all for now so this is Matty.D signing off.

Extreme Rules Impresses.

Last nights Extreme Rules didn’t match to the age of the Attitude Era or even the period from 2001 to 2009, but for a PG rated so called “Extreme” show it was able to make a hell of a night for WWE fans.

Younger and newer fans to Pro Wrestling and the WWE would have been on the edge of there seats with WWE’s more risky moves than normal and its slight “Hardcore” nature. Older Fans would have been enjoying it but most probably couldn’t help but say, “This is nothing compared to back in the day.”

First match of the night was Randy Orton vs. CM Punk in there Last Man Standing match. Before the match began the Raw GM chimed in to remove the New Nexus from ring side, a good thing really I would of seen there interference a damper on a great 1 on 1 contest.
It was a great way to kick off the show; the match was very back and forth. The match wasn’t absent weapons as Kendo Sticks and Chairs were bought into play and used in great fashion.
The match came to a close on a well laid out RKO from the top turnbuckle causing Punk to be out for the 10 count.

We then lead into an impromptu US Championship match between Sheamus and Kofi Kingston, and not just any match, they ended up colliding in a Tables match.
This was one of my favourite matches of the night, Kofi and Sheamus put on a great performance. It ended on a superb Boom Drop from the Top Turnbuckle on to Sheamus standing on the outside of the ring and through the table he was standing next to. A move that was so good you may have wanted to rewind and watch it over a few times before moving on to the rest of the night.

We then had Cole and Swagger vs. JR and Lawler in a match that I, to be honest, didn’t pay much attention to. I am bored of this storyline and I feel they should dump it and move on. Cole and Swagger stole the win.

Rey Mysterio and Cody Rhodes put on a well played out Falls Count Anywhere match. It did make its way around the arena before leading back to the ring where Rey nailed Cody with a great looking 619.

Layla and Michelle McCool went head to head next in a Loser Leaves match. Before the match Layla approached the face Divas backstage, she spoke about the past and the Divas did wish her luck as this could be her last match. Turned out to be the other way round as McCool was rolled up and pinned marking her departure from the WWE. Once Layla was out the way McCool cried in the ring, queue Awesome Kong, or as WWE are calling her, Kharma. Kharma came to the ring and beat on McCool then slammed her to the mat in a great looking finishing manoeuvre. While Kharma slowly departed we cut to the Divas backstage who looked pretty scared by this new butch female who has entered the fray.

We then headed into the Ladder match between Christian and Del Rio. Christian was at his best through out and Del Rio played it all very well.
The match couldn’t be left to just the two of them though; Brodus Clay came to the ring and was able to stop Christian getting the belt but did receive the smallest ladder to the head for his troubles. Blood was flowing at this point, it wasn’t fully shown due to the PG rating but when you see the puddle of blood outside the ring you knew Brodus was gushing from the head.
As Del Rio came close to grabbing the belt Edge rolled out in a Jeep and tooted his horn causing a distraction that helped Christian knock Del Rio down and nab the belt for himself. Christian takes his first World Title in his 13 Year Career and celebrated with his long time friend Edge.

We then had a surprise Lumber Jack Tag Team Match between the team of Big Show and Kane and Corre members Wade Barrett and Ezekiel Jackson. Show and Kane retained.

To end it all the WWE Championship was on the line in a Cage match. Morrison was my pick for the match and with his Parkour moves he put on a great performance. Unfortunately due to R-Truths interference Morrison was foiled at the point of winning. Truth entered the cage after stopping Morrison and beat on him before climbing the cage and leaving, all to prove his point. Truth is playing his Heel character well, there storyline could get interesting as things move on. Miz and Cena brawled about the cage from that point onwards, Miz looked to be coming close to winning as he attempted to give Cena a Skull Crushing Finale from the top rope but it was reversed into a top rope AA (F-U) and Miz was laid out and pinned bringing Cena another WWE Championship to close out the show.

A great show overall and knocked the socks off of last years Extreme Rules where the most interesting thing was the KFC Double Down, but WWE still need to work on things. I still stick by what I have said before which is dropping the PG rating and allow us to see Blood weather its someone busted open by accident or on purpose.

Extreme Rules 2011 Star Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

We are now are leading into Raw which will hold a Birthday Celebration for The Rock. We should see something happen between Rocky and new WWE Champ, John Cena.

Also we maybe waving goodbye to CM Punk sometime soon as he is showing interest in taking a sabbatical, taking some time off to get a break from WWE and do other things. To read more on that check out the link I will post down the bottom.

Questions For You

What did you think of last night Extreme Rules if you saw it?

What do you think is next in line to happen in WWE?

Are there any changes you would like to see WWE make to improve there product?

That’s all for now Matty.D Signing off.
