The Cult of CM Punk

The CM Punk storyline has been a great one, it may be moving fast but it has bought us a lot of excitement and been a lot less predictable than usual storylines. Recent events are looking to get more interesting in this “Triple H Era.”

Comic Con

The other day at Comic Con CM Punk gate-crashed a WWE/Mattel conference, he entered and confronted Triple H who was heading the conference. It was a funny and brilliant moment that is better watched than just heard about.

So on that note click HERE to see the video of that moment!

Raw

Well last night’s Raw was pretty lacklustre but it did have its good moments. Oddly the show opened with the WWE Championship match between The Miz and Rey Mysterio. It was a good match which saw Rey win the replacement WWE Title, it’s exactly the same as the old one. Del Rio did once again try and cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase but was foiled by Rey. Del Rio was able to get away before he had officially cashed in.

Rey’s celebration spilled backstage as other face characters greeted him, congratulated him and sprayed champagne. Rey had a small interview with Josh Matthews basically saying that he is bringing the gold home to his kids. All this seemed too much and would obviously lead to something bigger later in the show. John Cena was last to congratulate Rey.

Mid show saw Triple H come out to do some major announcements in regards to re hiring and retuning Characters and Superstars. He first presented to the WWE the return of good ol JR. Michael Cole was not best pleased and came forward with a rant about how he refuses to work next to him. Triple H came forward with the idea of just firing Cole but due Cole’s giant severance plan it wouldn’t be a smart idea. He then pointed out that if Cole refuse to work though he would there for be in breach of contract. He offered Cole the night off from commentary but Cole said he was going to stay, Trips then said that Cole would be late to his match that he is booked in for if he stays, and that he has ring attire waiting for him backstage. Cole then left to get ready.

Truth was next out to interrupt with a funny new gimmick of talking to two imaginary people to his right and left. He did his usual talk about conspiracy. Triple H played along with this in an even more humorous way by also pretending there were imaginary people with him. This lead to Triple H announcing the return of John Morrison who has been out on injury, Truth and Morrison slugged it out. This should lead to a great match down the line.

One other thing that Triple H announced was that Rey will be defending his newly acquired WWE Championship at the end of the night against former Champ John Cena.

After the Ad break Cole came out to Triple H’s King of Kings music in Triple H attire. He did a very silly version of Triple H’s entrance. His opponent turned out to be the Internet wiz, the Superstar with tones of online fans, not to mention thousands of Twitter followers, it was “Woo, Woo, Woo” Zach Ryder. A very short match but a good way to bring Zach forward.

Jump to the end of the show with (In my opinion) a very entertaining match between Rey and Cena, very back and forth and was a nail biter. It ended with Cena (once again) taking the WWE Championship. He celebrated in the ring when his music cut out and Cult of Personality by Living Colour played. The crowd, Cena and we at home were all rather confused on who it was for. Cena stood in the ring looking around for anyone this could be for. When the person it was for finally walked out I jumped out my seat. CM Punk made his way slowly to the ring, absorbing the cheers from the crowd. Wearing his new Red and White shirt and a new Red and White Titantron animation to match this looked like a new and refreshed CM Punk. He also of cores had the proper WWE Championship. Punk came to the ring and stood in front of Cena. Cena raised his championship to a medium sized cheer from the crowd; CM Punk then rose his higher and got a bigger cheer.
It was the image of the two in the ring together that closed the show.

So WWE throw yet another curve ball, I feel it is very early for Punk to make the return, it also leads me to wondering where exactly things are heading, and will things fall back into their old ways?

Obvious direction that they are heading in is Cena vs. Punk at SummerSlam but they could have done more with this and how many twists can they really have? They will have to stick with some more substantial storylines again at some point to help lead to these twists before they run out of ideas.

Questions for you.

Where do you think this story is going?

What do you think is next?

Do you feel happy with the coming Triple H Era?

That’s all for now Matty.D signing off.

Bye Bye Vince

If you missed the conclusion to Raw last night you missed yet another moment that will go down in Pro-Wrestling History.

The show started with Vince McMahon, accompanied by John Laurinaitis, announcing a Tournament to decide who it is that will be the new WWE Champion. He also touched on how there would be serious consequences for John Cena who did not take part the Tournament.

Throughout the night the tournament was the only matches that took place other than a pointless 7 on 7 Diva tag match, but let’s not talk about that.
It started with an “Injured” Miz vs. Alex Riley which Miz won, Truth then faced Jack Swagger, Truth was victorious, followed by Kofi Kingston vs. Alberto Del Rio (kinder unneeded as Del Rio is Mr. Money in the Bank) which Kofi won and lastly Rey Mysterio vs. Dolph Ziggler, Rey won. All those matches were pretty reasonable and nicely length matches.

In round 2 Kofi took on the Miz in a well-played out match where Miz stole the win, the other match being Rey vs. R-Truth in the best match of the night.

Rey won that match and waited in the ring for his opponent for the final round but received Vince McMahon instead; Vince apologised to Rey and said that he would have to postpone the match as there are more pressing issues.

Vince then began to speak about the fate of John Cena, and the way he was speaking it looked like that he was going to fire Cena.
Cena then came to the ring. Cena said about how Vince could create another John Cena or someone of his stature in time for Mania and things will go off without a hitch, he then moved on to say that this is what he does, and what he loves.

To quote Cena:
“I just need tell ya something, and I want this to sink in. I love the WWE and I truly believe I belong here. And man I hate saying this but if you’re about to tell me that I’m not welcome here, if you’re about to tell me that I have no other option, I love this, this is what I do, if you make we walk tonight then I will walk on someone else’s television show and keep doing this BROTHER!”

Strong words there and I think the first time the WWE has almost straight up acknowledged the opposing wrestling company, live on air, namely Hulk Hogan and TNA.

Vince then came to the point of firing Cena but right then the one and only Triple H made his way to the ring to the roar of the crowd suited and booted.

He spoke about a board of directors meeting that happened that morning. He spoke about how the board was concerned about Vince. There concerned about “Vince’s extremely questionable decisions.” Throughout what Triple H was telling Vince he was trying to get him to come to the back but Vince seemed to want to keep this public.
Triple H then moves on to say, “Vince, the board has asked me to come here, to tell you, that they have filed an injunction against you with a vote of no confidence. And Vince the family agrees.”

Emoticons started to rise between the two of them by this point, while the crowd could sense what was coming and were humming with excitement.

Triple H moved on to say, “on top of that, Vince, the board has appointed someone, to take over the day to day operations of the WWE.”

Tears started to well now, showing some superb acting and most probably real emotion between these long-time friends, rivals, and family members.

Triple H then said, “I can’t believe I’m even going to say this, but Vince it’s me.”

That’s right people Triple H is now in charge of the WWE, something we knew would happen one day, but I don’t think any of us predicted it would be so soon.

Triple H then moved on to make the CeNation crowd very happy by announcing that Vince was not going to fire Cena, and that he wasn’t going to do anything else.

To quote Triple H again, “you taught me from day one, that nobody is bigger than this business, nobody, and this is just business, can’t even believe I’m going to say this and believe Vince this with all due respect, I am here to inform you, that Vince you are relived of your duties.”

The Crowd was mixed but you could hear the cheers, Vince was in tears and I think it showed that this was very legit. The crowd started to chant, “Na na na na naa, hey hey hey, goodbye.”

Triple H then ended it off with, “I love you pop, and I’m sorry.”
He then dropped the mic and left the ring.

Vince stood in the ring a broken man, sad and teary eyed looking out to the crowd. The crowd did start to cheer, and chant “Thank you Vince.”

You clearly see Vince ask for the broadcast to end but he did have a mic in hand so there is a chance that the people in Green Bay got to hear Vince’s final words.

So what’s next? With Triple H in charge will we have an Evolution of the company? I just hope that Trips takes the company in good new directions, not to mention bringing in more amazing storylines like the ones we have been having of recent weeks.

Let’s also hope that Triple H will recognize the faults in the company and make the changes necessary to overcome them and make things better for the fans and the Superstars.

The future of WWE is unknown but hopefully big and bright, the next year will be an interesting one!

I just want to say I have faith in Triple H, and although Vince has made some silly, stupid and reckless decisions in the past, he did build the company that I have grown to love over the last 7 and a half years.
Thank you Vince, and farewell.

Vince Got Punked at Money in the Bank!

Well last night’s PPV blew the roof, sent in the air, past the clouds and landed on the moon! That’s how good it was. Most of that reason for that is of course was the final 30 to 45 minutes of the show.

History was made as CM Punk left the building and apparently the company with the WWE championship.
The build up to this match was brilliant, creative, realistic and interesting. As soon as the World Title match had finished up the crowd was going nuts, chants for CM Punk were running through the arena, signs for Punk held up all over the place, a banner was dropped down that said “If Punk Loses we Riot!”, it bought back memories of a sign for RVD vs. Cena at ECW’s One Night Stand.
We had the VT for the match build up and the crowd were still going wild. When Punk came out you wouldn’t have been able to hear yourself think as the crowd blew up even loader. CM Punk basked in his cheers, building up the crowd more and more loving every moment. Cena’s music then played and the crowd switched to some of the loudest boo’s ever heard in Pro-Wrestling.
All this lead into a highly fuelled up and down, back and forth match, close calls, big moves and suspense. It lasted over half an hour, there were so many great moments and it really did show why CM Punk is the best, but it did also show why Cena is good at what he does.

Vince McMahon and John Laurinaitis came to the ring near the end and watched from the side lines. When Cena locked in the STF for 3rd time in the match Vince started calling for the bell, John Laurinaitis headed towards the time keeper but Cena let go of the STF slid out the ring and gave Laurinaitis a punch sending him the floor, he then shouted at Vince, “Not this way, not this way.” When back in the ring Cena fell victim to the GTS, the 3 count was made and CM Punk won the WWE championship. Vince was furious and took a headset from the announcers table and called for Del Rio to cash in his Money in the Bank Contract which he won earlier in the night. Del Rio came but before he could officially cash in he was knocked out by Punk who then left through the roaring Crowd with the WWE championship. A great way to end the show.

Now although that was the best part of the PPV, and was the main reason it was so good, there were some great Ladder matches as well. The SmackDown! Match that opened the show though was better than the Raw, it seemed more stable and choreographed than the Raw that seemed more messy.

The SmackDown! Side had a great match to open the show, highflying moments big moves and more, not to mention of course a deserving winner. My pick of the match Daniel Bryan was the winner. I was rather pleased.

Later on the Raw side saw Del Rio win in a less impressive match, still good but was messy, little mistakes were spotted every now and again.

Before the WWE Title match we had the World Title match that had an extra stipulation that was if Randy was disqualified he loses the belt. That became the result as Christian spat in Randy’s face sending him in a frenzy, beating on Christian to the edge of a 5 count until he kicked Christian in the balls.
Christian was awarded the belt but Randy went after Christian beating on him and RKO’ing Christian on the Spanish announcers table. As he was leaving he came back and did it again. Another tremendous match between these two men.

The only other matches were the Divas match that I didn’t really pay attention to and the Big Show vs. Mark Henry which was reasonable. Nevertheless those two matches don’t take away from how good this event was, it will go down in history, it will be spoken about for weeks, months, years!

I give this PPV a solid 5 stars out of 5!

WWE must have something good to come, as I say let’s hope they don’t drop the ball. Raw tonight should be an interesting one, what will be the outcome of Punk leaving? Will there be a new belt? Will Punk surface in a few months on a rival brand with the WWE Championship? (I wouldn’t have thought so.) But the way this storyline has gone almost anything is possible.
