Alberto Del Rio Debuts!

This weeks SmackDown! Saw the debut of new star Alberto Del Rio. Over the past few weeks we have been seeing promo clips to push his character and style, (if you’re like me you either muted the TV during these promos, or fast forwarded the segment.)

We kicked off with Rey Mysterio cutting a promo to be soon interrupted by Alberto. This is good way to push him up the ladder fast; by going for the big stars he will rise quicker to becoming a big superstar as well.
After sharing words Rey challenged Del Rio for later in the night witch Del Rio accepted.

Last match of the night was Del Rio vs. Rey, through out the show this match was mentioned to really get us interested.
Del Rio I would say is, a Spanish cross between Eddie Guerrero and JBL, the reason I say that is because he flaunts his money around like JBL, and enters the ring driving a fancy car like Eddie.
The match was actually quite good and I see a lot of potential from this new up and comer, he showed good moves and great style.
The match went on going back and forth, in the end Del Rio locked in an Arm Bar but the way he locked it in was very stylish and well performed. A good finisher. The Arm Bar itself didn’t look to menacing but the way he got to it was what stood out. Rey tapped out to the lock giving the win to Del Rio making it impressive debut. After the match Del Rio locked the Arm Bar in again to show more on his Heel side.

The Intercontinental championship match from SummerSlam had a re do as Dolph and Kofi go head to head once again.
The match was going well until the cougar Vicki Guerrero got involved and actually got Dolph disqualified, of cores that means that Dolph gets to keep his title.
Post match Dolph beat on Kofi, then doing the Zig Zag before locking in his Sleeper hold. When it looked like he was all done and went to leave he returned to the ring once more and gave Kofi a hard stamp over the neck, it looked so real that I actually rewound to look at it again.

Serena of the S.E.S had her SmackDown! In ring debut as she tagged with fellow S.E.S member Luke Gallows. Before this match Punk told the two that if they lost they would be both out of the group.
They went up against the team of Kelly Kelly and Big Show. Serena and Kelly started in the ring first and Serena showed great skill, Gallows and Show didn’t see much action as they just fell over the ropes during a typical moment. Serena picked up the win.

Kane told us the reasons for the Undertaker attack which is basically the same storyline as every other time they have butted heads, the only difference is this time Kane has the World Title and the upper hand.

There was further development of the Drew, Cody tag team as Drew went head to head with Christian and Cody watched from the announcers table.
Drew didn’t come out the winner this time and lost to a quick crucifix pin by Christian. After the match Drew and Cody beat on Christian showing them selves as a strong alliance. Matt Hardy came limping to Christian’s aid but he was soon eradicated as well.

Not an amazing show but was of a reasonable level. I look forward to seeing what else Del Rio has to bring to the show and see where his story will go.

The next PPV is Night of Champions so over the next few shows we should see strong focus on all titles, may even see the Nexus on Raw looking to Gold.

That’s all for now Matty.D signing off.
