Under the Limit

Last nights WWE PPV Over The Limit didn’t quite meet expectations as most of the event felt like a standard Raw or SmackDown! Or even Superstars show.

I spent the event in a blog chat with Rob McNichol from The Sun and other WWE fans chatting about the PPV as it happened.

None of us was overly impressed with the show until the final three matches, but the last match killed our buzz.

They kicked off the show with R-Truth vs. Rey Mysterio. The match didn’t exactly make us jump out of our seats in excitement; the two had a substantial match surrounded by mediocre promos from Truth. Truth took the win.

Big Zeke then went up against Wade Barrett for the IC Title. The build up to this match wasn’t done to well and the crowd wasn’t impressed either. It was a typical one on one match until it looked like Zeke was going to get the win, the rest of the Corre turned up and Zeke got a beating. Wade lost by DQ but gets to keep his belt. This story needs a re think before it moves on.

Sin Cara then faced Chavo in a slightly sloppy looking luchador styled match. Sin Cara was not at his best and neither was Chavo. The match just didn’t grab us and Chavo and Cara wasn’t pulling off the moves that well so a lot of points were messy. Sin Cara took the win.

Backstage we saw CM Punk and Mason Ryan talking as they enter there locker room to find Otunga and Mcgillicutty beaten on the floor by apparently Kane and Big Show; this segment contained some real bad acting from the former Gladiator Mason Ryan.

Del Rio came to the ring and cut a promo about his destiny before being interrupted by Kane and Big Show and told to leave as Kane was unhappy the rapture didn’t come the day before was willing to beat on him like they did to Otunga and Mcgillicutty. Punk and Ryan came to the ring and we headed into another substantial match that didn’t quite match to a PPV level.
Kane and Show retained.

Toilet break time as Brie Belle and Kelly Kelly went against each other for the Divas title. Thanks to some Twin magic Brie retained. The Twins maybe the next attempt of a LayCool styled team.

We then finally had a match that we were all looking forward to in the blog chat. Randy Orton vs. Christian, and it met expectations! It was a brilliant contest that contained everything we could ask for and more as Randy locked in a new submission, a reverse Boston Crab, and Christian pulled a Spear out of his bag of moves. Near the end we started thinking that it would be interrupted by someone but luckily it never was. The match came to an end with an emphatic RKO. Randy offered his hand in respect after his win but Christian refused, Christian went to leave but paused as and came back and shook Randy’s hand and they shared a friendly ending from the best match of the night. Could Christian be taking a heel turn soon? He is showing signs.

We then thought we was in for a rubbish mess of Cole vs. Lawler but we was pleasantly surprised.
At first Cole came forward in his suit with, to be blunt, a sick note from his doctor saying he can’t compete. The Ref looked it over but decided to rip it up and ring the bell. Cole didn’t stand a chance as he was beaten on by Lawler. Cole almost got the upper hand outside the ring but was then thrown through his own Cole Mine.
Once Lawler got the 1-2-3 he started to prepare himself for the kiss my foot stage. He stopped and called for someone to come to the ring. Eve came out as she has apparently received a lot of verbal abuse from Cole. She did a nice looking moonsault from the top turnbuckle onto Cole. Jerry then went back to undoing his belt when he decided to call another person out. JR made his way to the ring then poured a bottle JR’s BBQ sauce over Cole.
Jerry was about to get the foot kissing he has earned but Cole ran from the ring. While at the top of the ramp a third and unexpected person came to the rescue to drag Cole back to the ring. None other than Bret “The Hitman” Hart!
Once in the ring Bret locked a Sharp Shooter on Cole and Jerry forced his foot into Coles mouth!
A good way to finally (and hopefully) end this storyline.

Now we had the final match of the night, the I Quit Match. We say match but it was more of a beating.
Before the match started Miz pointed out that with no DQ his associate Alex Riley could get involved. So this one on one contest was quickly turned into a handicap match.
Cena started with the upper hand but Miz and Riley soon turned the tables. From this point on the match just became a beating on Cena who just would not quit. A guy in the blog chat described the match as “The Passion of the Cena” and to be honest I totally agreed, there was nothing to get hooked on it was just beating after beating with Cena saying no after each one.
During the match Cena was pulled through the barrier by the ring bell area and was smacked on the head with a steel chair after another refusal to quit. This is out of the current WWE norm as chair shots to the head were ruled out.
After the shot to the head Riley held the mic to Cena and we heard “I Quit” from Cena. The match was finished but was obviously fixed. The ref used his detective skills to figure out that Riley played a recording of Cena saying “I Quit” using his phone and so the Ref restarted the match. Cena then took down Riley and Miz, locked in the STF and got the I Quit from Miz to retain his belt. The ending was boring and the win came too easily for Cena after the beating he received, would have been better if it was more back and forth. Unfortunately an I Quit Match with Cena seems to all be the same MO and have the same result as Cena never Quits.

So overall the PPV didn’t meet expectations and was more of an episode of Raw or SmackDown!

Out of 5 stars I give it an average 3.

The next PPV was advertised at Over The Limit to be Capitol Punishment it takes the place of Fatal 4 Way. What will WWE have to offer with this one?

Questions for you.

What did you think of Over The Limit if you saw it?

What do you think is next in the storylines?

Well that’s all for now this is Matty.D signing off.

Over The Limit This Sunday and R.I.P Randy Savage

Randy and Christian’s Plot thickens

Last nights SmackDown! Saw the plot thicken between Randy and Christian. Although they still seem to be good friends the two are slowly turning there backs on each other, but not all the way, at least not yet.

At the start of the show Christian took on Sheamus, by the end of the match Mark Henry came out and the two beat on Christian. Randy did come the rescue but he was in no rush, he waited up at the titantron letting Christian get beat before finally coming to his aid.

Later Randy took on Mark Henry and by the end Sheamus came down and the two beat on Randy. Notice the Dej a vu? Christian came out but just like Randy, he took his time. He did finally come to the rescue and they got the upper hand. Sheamus was thrown out the ring by Christian while Randy was hoisted into the air by Mark. Christian kicked Mark in the gut so Randy falls to his feet, does a sort of jig then does absolutely brilliant RKO, and he celebrates with a jumping split, (not his usual character style for Randy, but it worked). The two shook hands to show there respect to each other and it looks like this Sunday we are in for a hell of a match!

Something I have noticed is this may have been the storyline originally wrote out for Edge and Christian, but due to Edges recent retirement the characters taking part have changed.

I am unsure on who will be winning the belt at Over The Limit, if this storyline was meant to be for Edge and Christian it would seem that Over The Limit was the original big day for Christians title win, not Extreme Rules. If they keep on that path we should see Christian come out with the Belt, but to maybe drag the story out and keep this great rivalry going we could see it end in a DQ, or Double Count out, or even cut short by interference. Either way I just hope for a good match.

Over The Limit!

Randy Savage R.I.P

On a sombre note now this week saw WWE Legend Randy Savage die in a car accident.

While driving with his wife Randy suffered a heat attack at the wheel of the car causing them to go out of control and crash into a tree. He was taken to a near by medical facility where he died of his injuries.

This is a sad time in the Wrestling world and my deepest condolences go out to his wife and family.
Randy and his wife Lynn only married last year, to know that someone has been ripped away from your life after only being married that one year must be hard, I hope she has the support she needs from her family and friends.
