Last night saw the first ever Fatal 4 Way Pay-Per-View and I must say it was actually pretty good.
Before I get onto the main matches of the night I would like to talk about my favourite match of the night. This match was a non booked match between Chris Jericho and Evan Bourn. It started with a Promo from Chris Jericho which maybe planting the seeds for a storyline that may lead to his departure.
We then had the match and I thought it was brilliant; I really enjoyed the match and even found myself almost jumping out of my seat because I wanted Evan to win so badly. Evan did eventually take the win after an amazing looking Air Bourn, to Jericho’s back.
Another reason I loved this match is because it is another push for Evan Bourn. In the wrestling world there are certain people you can go up against that will make you look good regardless of weather you win or lose, one of those people is Chris Jericho, so it should have helped Evan jump up the ranks more.
After the show Jericho posted this on his twitter:
“Had the best match I’ve had in months tonight. Bourne is the real deal…and I must destroy him.”
I have also recently read the Suns review of the show and they agree, Evan vs. Chris was the best match of the night.
Other good matches was the Scotsman known as Drew McIntyre vs. Kofi Kingston for the Intercontinental Championship, and the last Fatal 4 Way was a great contest until it was ruined by a another attack form the NXT rookies.
The reason I found the Intercontinental Championship match good, was because of the way they got Teddy Long and Matt Hardy involved.
Before the match Drew made Teddy come to the ring and told him that he is to sit and watch, and when (if) Drew wins, Teddy must hand Drew the title. So Teddy did sit at ring side and watched the match and supported Kofi as the match went on. The match itself was good, Drew and Kofi put on a good little contest. During the match the Ref was taken out of action. Drew then nailed Kofi with his double arm DDT and went for the cover, but had no ref to count it. He called Teddy to the ring, pulled the shirt off of the Ref and gave it to Teddy, and the ordered him to count the pin. Teddy stuck the shirt on, and started to count, but when we thought it was going to be all over Teddy stopped at 2 and did not let his hand hit the mat for 3. As Drew became angry the crowd roared as Matt Hardy came through the crowd got in the ring and put Drew into a Twist of Fate, then legged it, Kofi then hit Drew with a trouble in paradise and covered him for Teddy to count the 1, 2, 3.
The other good match was the main Fatal 4 Way for the WWE Championship. It was good until the ending anyway.
The match was going well and was looking like the best 4 way of the night when the NXT rookies showed up.
The rooks came through the backstage area and attacked some superstars watching the match on a TV; they then ransacked the area before heading out the arena floor. As the match slowed we heard noises from the top of the stage as the rookies came through, they ran to the ring and beat on Cena. They then attacked Randy and Edge on the outside of the ring, it was at this point when Sheamus stole the match pinning the lifeless John Cena then running away through the crowd.
After the rookies beat on Cena some more, Sheamus showed up at the top of the ramp holding his newly “won” title. The rooks then ran up the ramp and chased Sheamus out, leaving us looking at the sprawled bodies of Cena, Orton and Edge. The show then came to close.
This ending to the match really didn’t do well for me or most others watching, it left asking “is that it?” also the show ended at least 25 to 35 minutes before its actual scheduled end time. I am glad it wasn’t a BoxOffice show as I would complain that I got a 2 and a half hour show when I paid for a 3 hour show.
This was a bad ending to a good show and a good match.
The rest of the matches were not as good as the ones I have just gone through but they weren’t overly bad either.
We had the Divas championship change hands in there match. The match itself though was a bit slow and looked overlay choreographed, but it did have its highs as it was longer than most matches using the Divas, and there was some good moves, such as when Alicia Fox was in a chin lock from Eve and then hooked at the legs by Gail Kim to be Boston Crabbed, the move was sold well and looked quite painful, I felt a bit sorry for Alicia actually.
Alicia was the victor of this match as she stole the pin after Eve had done a moonsault on Maryse.
The World Heavyweight match had interference from Kane; he came down to the ring during the match pushing a casket and picked CM Punk to be the man to go in it. Kane grabbed Punk and threw him in the casket by the neck, before he was able to shut the lid Gallows came in and stopped Kane. Punk and Gallows then legged it back stage, (obviously Punk was more concerned about his own well being than the world title), after that Rey nailed the 619 on Swagger and picked up the win. I must admit I didn’t see Rey coming out the victor but its good to see the belt in different hands and as Rey hasn’t held the title since Wrestlemania 22 its nice to see him back with it. The odd thing was Big Show didn’t seem to do much in the match as it seemed he was taken out early, maybe due to injury but I’m not to sure.
R-Truth and Miz’s match seemed to be quite boring; Miz walks away with the title again.
We also had a 6 person tag match added to the card as The Hart Dynasty took on The Uso’s and Tamina.
It was an ok match, the Uso’s look like they should be a good team. The match ended with the two Divas of the match going at it, and going at it well, these two look like the best in ring skilled Divas at this present moment. The match ended with the Hart Dynasty taking the win after Tamina missed her flying body press, and getting hit by Natalya’s spinning clothesline.
Overall I give Fatal 4 Way a 3.5 out 5.
Tonight’s Raw looks to have no guest host, which if you ask me is a good thing, John Cena should be on the hunt for the NXT rookies and most probably Sheamus.
We may end up seeing the unlikely team of Cena, Orton and Edge formed over time depending on how the storyline goes.
That should be all for now Raw tonight at 2am SkySports3 and SkySports3HD.
Matty.D signing off.
